Celebrate St Patrick’s Day with music and food at the library! Events will be happening in the McKune room and Kidspot, including live music and gaming. Gaming guru Jessica from Mad Cow Gaming will be hosting Wii games from 6:30 to 8pm in the library Kidspot room during the event.
DOOR PRIZES: Walk in the door and get a prize! These prizes are limited, so come on time! Prizes so far: Free passes for Bowling at Chelsea Lanes,… free passes to Arctic Coliseum, and free passes for Digital Ops in Ann Arbor!
POTLUCK: This is a snack and dessert potluck, so bring a back or chips, a tray of cookies or some tasty cupcakes to share!
The evening will kick off at 6:30pm with music from Soft Serve Symphony. This musical group features Peter van Reesema on keyboard and vocals, Corey Critchfield on guitar and vocals, James Alexander on strings and vocals, and Michael Koss on drums and percussion. They play a pleasing blend of pop, rock and blues, and we can’t wait to feature them in the McKune room. Soft Serve Symphony will be followed by Company C, Chelsea High School’s premiere show choir. Company C. will be performing a selection from 2011 Showcase of Michigan Show Choirs on February 26. The new duo “Age of Reason” will be performing later in the evening as well.There may also be musical performances by special guest musicians, so stay tuned and join us on March 17. Wear green!
Don’t get carried away now.. If you’re looking for something fun to do, come dressed up to help with Chills in Chelsea tonight! Come early to decorate at 5:30pm, and stay until 8:15pm. There will be candy!
Last Friday, SRSLY held a big volunteer party at Pierce Park. Teens and adults who had volunteered over the course of 2010 were honored with free food and some nifty prizes! (I won a fleece pullover)
This year Chelsea District Library has supported SRSLY in many ways. In March, we teamed up with the organization to create a message for parents about the dangers of supplying alcohol at house parties.
This Fall, SRSLY and Chelsea are teaming up again for SRSLY Book Blast Tuesday, November 30, 6-7:30pm. We will be discussing Crank, by Ellen Hopkins, and if you sign up early, you will receive a free copy of the book!

The Kids Read Comics Convention, a free event promoting comics and graphics novels for kids and teens, moves to Dearborn for its second annual celebration on June 12 and 13, 2010. The event will be held in Dearborn’s Henry Ford Centennial Library and feature over fifty artists and writers who work in comics and animation. These creators will lead a variety of hands-on workshops and participate in panel discussions and presentations aimed at kids, teens, parents, teachers and librarians.
There will be a kids costume parade and a teen cosplay contest, too!

We have a variety of new dresses this month, and a special event: DIY Prom! You can take your “new” prom dress and improve it with the help of seamstress Harriet Kozyn. We’re going to have and ironing board, iron, 2 portable sewing machines, and miscellaneous pieces of satin, net tulle, scissors, thread, etc on hand to help you improve make your dress like new!
