In Remembrance: Kathy Sprawka

Kathy Sprawka, Chelsea District Library Board President, passed away early the morning of January 31, 2004.

Chelsea District Library remembers Kathy Sprawka

We are all shaken at this sudden loss.  Kathy was totally committed to the success of the downtown library project.  I will personally miss her remarkable tenacity and her insistence that attention to the details will make the project succeed.  She made me much better at my job, pushing me and the library to higher levels of performance than we thought possible. She was in every sense "Coach" - to me, to the staff and to the board. We will miss her greatly.
  --- Metta Lansdale, Library Director

Favorite Kathy-Quotes:

"We'll light up McKune like a Polish church"

"The library should be the heart of the community and its meeting place."

"The library has to happen, it will happen, we have to make it happen."

"There is a baseball game tonight so let's make this a short meeting."

Kathy asked me a really great question when I had to make a presentation to the board:
"What is your opinion about auditor rotation?"  - like she really wanted to hear my answer!
I had never before been asked that by a client .
-- David Williamson, library auditor

"McKune House will GLOW as you come up main street".
Jim Mumby first used this phrase at a charette but Kathy never let him forget it.
