Low Vision Center

The Chelsea District Library and the Chelsea Lions Club have joined forces to help people with vision impairments maintain their independence through the use of vision aids.

Thanks to a generous $3,000 donation from the Chelsea Lions Club, we have installed a Low Vision Center located on the 2nd floor. This collection includes handheld and stand magnifiers as well as hands-free magnifiers and book stands.

These items are available for loan to Chelsea cardholders. The loan period is 3 weeks, with 2 renewals, and late fees of $0.10 per day.

Thanks to donation from local resident Pat Montgomery, the Library also has a Merlin digital reader available for use within the Library. The device features user-friendly navigation that allows the user to significantly magnify an item – anything from a newspaper to a historic photo can be easily magnified and clearly viewed on the digital screen. The Merlin is located on the 2nd floor near the fireplace.
